Six men remanded in custody following attempted bank robbery

Six men from west Belfast have been remanded in custody following the attempted robbery of a bank in Antrim on Tuesday.

Denis Dorian, 36, of Springfield Park, Seamus Cunningham, 30, of Colinwell in Poleglass and Gerard Martin Irvine, 25, of Gardenmore Road in Andersonstown all pleaded "not guilty" to charges of robbing a Securicor cash courier of £25,000 outside an Ulster Bank branch in the town when it was put to them at Antrim police station.

The three men are also accused of having an imitation firearm used to commit the alleged offence.

Also in court were 32-year-old Bernard Rooney of Moyard Parade in New Barnsley, Sean Nawaz, 21, of Areema Drive in Twinbrook and Sean Martin Doran, 19, of Upper Springfield Road.

They had all replied "no" when asked if they wanted to comment when the charges were put to them.

The men were remanded in custody to appear by video link at Antrim Magistrates Court on February 5.

No one was injured in Tuesday's incident, which is thought to have been foiled as a result of a tip-off.
